New Return Missionaries

  • When missionaries complete missionary service, the transition home can be challenging. In order to help missionaries successfully transition to post-mission life, an online course called My Plan is available to help missionaries prepare and plan for their return home.
  • Missionaries will receive an email ten weeks before their scheduled date to return home notifying them that they have access to My Plan within the Missionary Portal and inviting them to begin the course.
  • My Plan consists of six experiences that prompt missionaries to reflect on what they have learned as a missionary and determine how they will apply these learnings after their mission.
  • They are prompted to set goals in areas of spiritual development, Sabbath and temple worship, education, employment, dating, and service. My Plan is available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Notifications will be sent when additional languages are added.
  • Mission presidents should direct missionaries to take at least an hour a week on a day other than preparation day to complete My Plan.
  • When missionaries have completed the My Plan course, mission presidents, home stake presidents, and bishops or branch presidents will have access through IMOS (mission president) and Leader and Clerk Resources (stake president, bishop, and branch president) to a simplified version of the missionary’s plan.
  • Mission presidents are encouraged to review the plan as part of a missionary’s release interview to discuss their goals and plans. Stake presidents are encouraged to discuss the missionary’s plan in the release interview.
  • Bishops and branch presidents are invited to encourage returned missionaries to update and follow through on their plans. This could be done by assigning a ministering brother or sister who can help and encourage the missionary.
